This one wasn’t the same.
It wasn’t the shocking upset against Florida and it wasn’t the poorly executed loss to LSU. It wasn’t even the embarrassing effort at USC earlier this season.
I’m very upset with the outcome of the Fiesta Bowl, but if you consider that OSU scored 15 points late in the game — a field goal and two touchdowns without converting two two-point tries — and the fact Chris Wells wasn’t a part of any of the late scores after getting a concussion, it was a solid performance.
Todd Boeckman showed he can play a bit and Terrelle Pryor’s touchdown catch was incredible.
I’m down as I’d be with any Buckeyes loss, but the effort was incredible and with Wells out, assuming he goes pro, we got a look at what guys like Boom Herron and Pryor can do.
I watched the highlights of the 2006 win at Texas and was reminded just how many of our defensive players who were on the field in meaningful situations in that game who were still there tonight. It was amazing how little Colt McCoy threw the ball Malcolm Jenkins’ way, showing the respect they had for the Thorpe Award winner.
The Longhorns couldn’t run the ball so McCoy threw it, and threw it for over 400 yards. That stings, but they didn’t do the same things they did through most of the season, including against Oklahoma.
Next season can’t get here soon enough!
