Just a quick personal straw poll on the Heisman Trophy. Here are my favorites in order:
1. Dennis Dixon, QB Oregon
2. Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas
3. Tim Tebow, QB Florida
4. Sam Bradford, QB Oklahaoma
5. James Laurinaitis, LB Ohio State

Accurate anaylysis from all those concerned regarding the Ohio State football season. However, my take on the whole rankings, perspective issue is simple. "Respect" or "hype" or whatever those innocuous words mean is irrelevant. To get wrapped up in that sort of business detracts from the cold, hard facts. Whatever commentators, fans, coaches, critics say is beside the point. The only thing that matters is a body of work over time. Obviously, if overall wins, Big 10 titles, national titles, Heisman winners, personal memories and the like are taken into account, Ohio State is clearly a Top Five program, especially considering its recent span of excellence in the Jim Tressel era. And with regard to the 2007 club, it is immaterial what people blabber about because OSU has played nine games and won every single time, mainly in convincing fashion. Neither the players nor most of the coaches have any control over the schedule (generally done years in advance) nor the strenghs of the opponents from one year to the next. All the Buckeyes need to do is focus on each game and beat the hell out of whoever else is on the other sideline. Leave all this mindless drivel about "respect" and "hype" and all that stuff to the teams that lose games. Just win every time out and you'll be in the BCS Title Game. All that truly matters is the trophy. Craving attention is for the insecure and as Buckeye Nation we should be above all that.

I was at the game last night and agree with your assessment Seth. I would, however, be a little more critical of Diebler. His defense left a little to be desired as he I watched a few crosscourt passes slip through his hands. Chalk it up to nerves, I will be looking for more from him against Findley. I was very impressed with Koufos. I can see him being a crowd favorite before long, he plays with a the kind of energy you would expect from a guard. Lauderdale looked like a decent player but I am guessing we will not see much of him this year since we have so many big players. Overall, I walked away impressed with this year’s squad and I am excited to see them play against a team with equivalent size.

Speaking of the Bucks, I can't help but feel that the loss in the championship game motivated not only the returning players but also all incoming players. To listen to the players speak it is quite obvious they are on a mission, not to win a national championship but to win back respect for the program and for themselves. In this case, due to the "weak" schedule, they have it convinced in their mind that only a national championship will garner that respect. As far as the media and those who say "weak schedule". The rankings of the teams LSU and Oklahoma beat are as fantasy as saying we have a weak schedule. The only losses Penn State, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Michigan State have are at the hands of other Big Ten teams.

Over the period of several decades the Big Ten has proven to be a powerful conference delivering national championships and heisman trophy winners. We have nothing to prove to the nation of college football, we just have to prove that we are a better team than Wisconsin come Saturday afternoon.

We will have a dandy game this Saturday. Wisconsin always plays us close, I think the speed of our defense and the exceptional play of our kicking game will be the difference. Prediction OSU 26 WIS 13
